A New OA Website — Built for the Way We Connect Today Launches Tomorrow (17th April)

Tomorrow OA will launch a completely updated oa.org — a website rebuilt from the ground up to serve our Fellowship better, welcome newcomers more warmly, and make it easier than ever to find and manage meetings. This is the most significant update we have made to our website in five years, and we are proud to share it with you.

A Long Time Coming

Our website design has been in place for five years. The Find a Meeting system was older still, and the database powering our meeting listings dated back to the early 2000s. Last year, a major database modernization effort cleared the path for what you see today. The Website Review Committee seized that opportunity and got to work rebuilding the member-facing website (and thus, our experience) from the ground up.

What’s New

The updated website touches nearly every part of the member experience. Here is a summary of what you’ll find:

  • A fresh new design and layout that works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop.
  • A redesigned front page with new features to welcome visitors and help them find their way.
  • A new menu style that makes navigation simpler and more consistent throughout the site.
  • A revised newcomer section with new content, a better layout, and a more prominent place in the navigation — plus the OA Quiz is still there for those exploring whether OA is right for them.
  • Relevant documents will soon appear directly on the pages where they apply, not just in the resource library — for example, diversity resources on the Unity with Diversity page and newcomer materials on the newcomer pages, each opening automatically in your browser’s language.
  • A new category index on the News and Events page lets you browse by category without returning to the main menu.
  • A completely rebuilt Find a Meeting module with filters for time zone, language, format, day, time of day, topic, focus, literature, visitor access, and more.
  • New Add, Edit, and Cancel Meeting screens that are clean, step-by-step, and built for non-technical users.
  • A new site-wide search ranks results by relevance rather than flooding you with every page that contains a matching word is a new feature.

Training Resources for the New Meeting Module

To help groups and service bodies get comfortable with the new Add, Edit, and Cancel Meeting screens, we are creating a complete set of training videos and quick reference guides. They cover Find a Meeting, Add a Meeting, Edit a Meeting, and Cancel a Meeting — all designed with non-technical users in mind.

Thank You

This project represents years of volunteer service and sustained staff effort. The Board of Trustees and World Service Office are deeply grateful to the Website Review Committee, whose vision and dedication made this possible.

We are also deeply grateful to the members and service bodies who contributed financially to support this project. Your generosity made this possible and reflects the best of our Seventh Tradition spirit.

We also extend special recognition to the World Service Office staff members who drove this project forward: Sandra Zimmerman, Associate Director / Member Services Manager, Lorie Laurence, Group Registrations Coordinator / IT Liaison, and Kevin McGuire, Digital Communications Manager. Their expertise and commitment to this Fellowship are evident in every aspect of the new site.

“Finding a meeting is often the first step someone takes toward recovery. Today, we made that step — and every step that follows — a little easier.”
