Translation License 2 Is Back with Changes

Registered OA service bodies who want to start or resume publication and distribution of translated OA literature may now apply to the World Service Office using a new version https://oa.org/translation-license-2-2/ , now with a termination date of December 31, 2027. Each license agreement will now include a limit for total printed and PDF or digital copies and specify how PDFs and other digital copies may be distributed.

License 2 requests had been paused for about a year while OA, Inc. evaluated existing literature distribution, protection of OA’s intellectual property, and Seventh Tradition considerations. The new revised License 2 was recently developed by the Executive Committee in response to a World Service Business Conference 2026 vote mandating that the Executive Committee either present a new solution or resume issuing licenses by September 1, 2026.

The newly revised License 2 with its shorter term, through the end of 2027, will allow service bodies to continue distributing literature in their languages while allowing OA time to develop modern methods and agreements for distribution that better support our Seventh Tradition and protect OA’s copyrights.
