I was elected by the 2023 assembly to the position of Bylaws coordinator based on my desire to do service and my experience with bylaws. I did not quite understand the role and position within the service structure. I later learnt that I would be part of the Nuts & Bolts committee, reporting to the committee chair.
I first reviewed Region 9’s bylaws and policy manual and as a result, created and submitted several motions to the Nuts & Bolts committee for consideration to submit to the 2024 assembly. The committee also considered motions prepared by the Region 9 Board which restructured significant parts of the bylaws and policies. The results of all our discussions are the motions that are included in the 2024 Region 9 Assembly agenda for discussion and voting.
There are motions, that if adopted by the Assembly, will be submitted by Region 9 to the World Service Business Conference 2025 for consideration. One of these was initiated by the Nuts & Bolts committee and others by service bodies in Region 9. It is great to see how some service bodies are active and enthusiastic.
Thanks go to all the Nuts & Bolts committee members and Region 9 Board members who spent considerable time on this work. Why do we do it? Because it’s important that our bylaws and policies remain relevant, updated and consistent so that Region 9’s assembly, board and committees, can conduct business in both a clear manner and comply with OA’s 12 Traditions and 12 Concepts of service.
We are now considering offering support and help to the Region 9 service bodies to create or update their own bylaws and policies, so you may be hearing from this committee quite
soon.
In recovery and service,
Adele
