Our 2026 Annual Hybrid Assembly marks the end of my third year serving in this trusted servant position as Chair of Region 9.
Serving in this role continues to bring me immense joy and energy. It is also a beautiful opportunity for spiritual growth, something I have shared with you before. I am deeply grateful for the privilege of serving alongside so many dedicated members and for everything this journey continues to teach me.
The Region 9 Board meets monthly, and we also hold bimonthly Trusted Servants Meetings. I continue to organize these meetings by preparing the agendas and ensuring that our discussions are conducted in an orderly, respectful, and welcoming manner. We work closely together and frequently meet or speak one-on-one to discuss challenges, resolve issues, and support one another in carrying out our responsibilities.
I always strive to do my best by responding promptly to inquiries and by being present whenever I am invited to attend events or workshops. It is important to me to be available to our members, to listen, to support them, and to share my experience, strength, and hope whenever I can.
I attended the World Service Business Conference, which was held in person in Albuquerque. Once again, Region 9 delegates prepared together before the Conference, sharing our experience, strength, and hope while encouraging and supporting one another through our Region 9 Delegates Committee. This preparation continues to be one of the strengths of our Region.
As in previous years, Region 9 had a strong presence at the Conference. I believe that our delegates made a meaningful contribution to the business of the Fellowship and helped create a more informed group conscience.
One of the most significant moments of the Conference was when Region 9 presented an emergency business motion requesting that a temporary Licence 2 Agreement be granted so that translated literature could continue to be published and distributed while the review process was ongoing.
Preparing and presenting this motion, first to the Reference Committee and then to the Conference, became an important spiritual lesson for me. It was the first time I truly experienced and understood the spiritual principle of delegation described in Concept Eight. I felt the great responsibility of speaking on behalf of so many members. Although I was initially afraid, that fear gradually gave way to trust. I could feel the support, encouragement, and confidence of the other Region 9 delegates, and somehow I was able to let go of my anxiety and simply trust the process.
It was also a deeply moving moment for all of the Region 9 delegates when the entire Reference Committee understood the seriousness of the issue. They devoted considerable time not only to approving the emergency nature of the motion but also to improving its wording so that it would have a greater chance of being adopted by the Conference.
The final outcome was different from what we had anticipated as an amendment to the motion was adopted during Conference discussion requesting that the Executive Committee present a proposed solution by September 1.
Following the Conference, Region 9 sent a letter to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees requesting the opportunity to provide information, practical examples, and input before decisions and structures are finalized. Our hope is that any long-term solution will be based on a fully informed group conscience and on the practical experience of those directly involved in translation and distribution.
In the meantime, the moratorium on Translation Licence 2 Agreements has been lifted, and the World Service Office is once again accepting and reviewing new applications. New agreements will remain in effect through the 31st of December 2027, and will include limits on printed and PDF copies, together with guidelines for digital distribution.
While we are grateful that this important work has resumed, our efforts continue. We remain committed to ensuring that the final Licence 2 process reflects the experience and knowledge of those who serve our multilingual Fellowship.
As a Region Chair, I continue to participate on the Region Chairs Committee, and for another year I have the honour of serving as the Delegate Co-Chairs. This committee remains one of my favourite service commitments because of its spirit of unity, collaboration, and mutual support. Together, we work for the common good of our Fellowship while learning from one another and strengthening the bonds between our Regions
I also continue to work closely with our Trustee Liaison, discussing the needs and challenges faced by our affiliated service bodies and groups. I am grateful for her support, our ongoing cooperation, and the opportunity to help ensure that Region 9’s voice is heard and that our members continue to receive the support they need.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary work being carried out by all of our committees and trusted servants. So many wonderful ideas are being transformed into meaningful projects through the enthusiasm, dedication, and service of our members. I encourage you to read the reports submitted by our committees and trusted servants to learn more about the inspiring work taking place throughout Region 9.
Thank you for the opportunity and privilege of serving Region 9. It continues to be an honour to walk this journey of recovery and service with all of you.
With love to our fellowship
