The Region 9 Digital Committee continues to maintain and enhance the Region 9 website, ensuring it remains accurate, accessible, and up to date for members, service bodies, and visitors. 

We regularly review and improve the Region’s digital tools to support all services across our geographically diverse fellowship.

We publish and distribute news and announcements from the World Service Office, the Region, Intergroups, and other areas of OA. This includes ensuring timely updates are communicated clearly and consistently, helping members stay informed about service opportunities, events, policy updates, and fellowship news.

Over the past 12 months, there has been a significant shift in how the committee operates. Previously, much of the workload sat primarily with the Committee Chair, with members assisting as needed. Today, the majority of the work is undertaken by committee members themselves, with the Digital Committee Chair providing support, guidance, and oversight where needed. This transition reflects growing confidence, skill development, shared responsibility, and a healthier distribution of service.

The committee is currently working on the development of a new Region slogan and logo to better reflect the identity, unity, and spirit of Region 9. Alongside this, we are reviewing and updating our digital platforms to ensure they remain modern, functional, and aligned with current needs.

Our largest and most intensive project each year is supporting the Region Assembly. Twice annually, we prepare, upload, organise, and manage more than 60 documents on the website, ensuring representatives and members can easily access all required materials. While this is a substantial undertaking, it is a core part of our service.

In addition, we provide ongoing digital support to other Region committees and service bodies, assisting with communications, systems, and technical needs. We are working closely with the Translations Committee to improve the quality and reliability of our live translation software, strengthening inclusivity and accessibility across languages. Alongside these major responsibilities, the committee manages numerous smaller digital projects throughout the year in support of the Region’s service work.

Reflections from Committee Members

Maria: I am a grateful member of the Digital Committee. I joined it after the Athens assembly. It was a new committee with a subject completely unknown to me. That sparked my interest. At first, I did not understand what the members were saying. Each time I was given the floor on topics that were incomprehensible to me, and I answered with the inner fear of making a fool of myself. But that never happened. I learned new things about technology. Over time, I was also assigned more demanding tasks, such as publishing announcements on the website. Today I look forward to our meetings; I know and feel that I am an equal member alongside everyone else, and that my opinion counts. All members are heard equally, and there is room for everyone, even for those who have no knowledge of digital services. On a personal recovery level, I want to say that the trust and the patience of the members, mainly the Digital Officer and the Digital Committee Chair, offered me self-confidence and courage for the primary purpose of carrying the message to the compulsive eater who still suffers.

Jules: I have been very warmly welcomed onto the digital committee. I took on the role of scheduling the twice weekly Region 9 newsletters. I was given excellent training by two very patient committee members. I was daunted by the difficulty of this role, however, in reality it is simple and straightforward, and I know I have the backup support whenever I need it. As a result of my growing confidence in this role I have also taken on a similar role for OA OA Great Britain National Service Board. My confidence is growing. I am very grateful to everyone who has helped and supported me.

Sarah: I have only very recently joined the committee and I have had one training session on how to get information onto the Region 9 website. I have found everyone really welcoming and the training session very clear and helpful. I am not in any way a tech buff, but see that there is a lot of support given in the group and via training. I see how much the group does and how well it works as a committee.
Hennie: I’m Hennie, compulsive overeater. I joined the digital committee almost one year ago. I didn’t understand much of what the purpose of this committee was, but I was appealed by the commitment of its members. I stood up for the role of secretary. Knowing that I would get any support I needed. By listening to the recordings of our meetings while writing the minutes, I learned a lot. Now I feel very comfortable…I understand what we are doing…and I am grateful of being a part of this committee.
