Service Body or Committee: OA Region 9 Board
Intent: The intent of this motion is to clarify that Region 9 officers may also serve as World Service Business Conference delegates for Region 9, a Region 9 affiliated service body, or a Region 9 participating service body. The motion keeps the existing rule that officers should not hold other voting positions beyond Group level, while creating a clear exception for WSBC delegate service. This change recognises the practical realities of service in Region 9 and helps ensure experienced trusted servants are not prevented from serving at the world service level.
Implementation: If adopted, the change would take effect immediately.
Cost: There is no expected financial cost associated with this motion. Any updates to documents or websites can be completed through existing service structures and resources.
How This Supports OA’s Primary Purpose: Allowing officers to serve as World Service Business Conference delegates can improve communication between Region 9 and World Service, strengthen continuity, and support more effective service. Stronger service structures help OA better support groups and members throughout the Fellowship.
Rationale: The current wording is too narrow and could unintentionally prevent Region 9 officers from serving as World Service Business Conference delegates for affiliated or participating service bodies. This can create unnecessary barriers to service and may reduce continuity and experience within OA service.
Region 9 covers many countries, languages, and cultures, and the Fellowship often relies on members who are willing to serve in multiple capacities. Allowing officers to also serve as World Service Business Conference delegates helps maintain communication, experience, and continuity between Region 9 and World Service.
The motion is limited in scope and does not remove the overall restriction on holding multiple voting positions. It simply clarifies that World Service Business Conference delegate service is permitted.
