Service Coordinators – Newsletter

The Assembly will be held on the 18th of May from 2 pm to 7 pm UK time

I am a compulsive overeater and the Region 9 Νewsletter Coordinator since our annual Assembly in Athens.

This service seems to be a one person service but in fact it is not. The newsletter is the result of togetherness. I cooperate with the Digital Committee and the Digital Officer in order to prepare it. This Region 9 Newsletter according to Region 9 Policy and Procedure Manual might include articles about recovery or personal experiences at OA events, and/or other features and articles relevant to the region or recovery in general. Our first task is to keep it positive. Through this we share experience, strength and hope. My service is to gather all this stuff and forward it to the Digital Committee and the Digital Officer, who give the final form.

So far, we have sent three newsletters to the members all over Region 9

The first one was sent in January and included

  • Impressions of the Region 9 Assembly, written by a green dot (Christina), a longtimer (Teresa from UK), a member from a new service body (Tereza from Malta) and a Greek member who has been a trustee (Vasiliki),
  • A report written by the Chair of Region 9 concerning the assembly in Athens
  • News from Emilia, our Trustee Liaison and the World Service Office and
  • The formation of two committees, the Digital Committee and the Document Review Committee

The second one was released in February and included

  • Two reports about the 65th birthday of the Overeaters Anonymous fellowship that was celebrated in Poland and Greece
  • News from the World Service Office by Emilia and a Recovery Survey that was published by World Service Office and an invitation for recovery stories of members who live in abstinence
  • A report about OA in Hungary and
  • A report of the Outreach Committee concerning the two sub-committees that were created in Mediterranean and in Centra Asia

The newsletter that was release in March included

  • A call for action by the Active Outreach Committee
  • A story of abstinence shared by a member in Spain and
  • A call for ESH submissions by the Active Outreach Committee.

I am very grateful for this service because it encourages me to connect members all over Region 9, supporting this way my abstinence and recovery. Service is the way to reach the compulsive overeater and through the newsletter Region 9 is visible to all, all members feel that they are not alone. Often, every month or sooner information arrive to our e-mails, questionnaires, stories of abstinence and call for events.

We hope that the newsletter will enhance the growth of Overeaters Anonymous in Region 9.
